The IPSC Chess Tournament, 2018 was organised by Mody School from 6th to 8th September, to select contestants for the 63rd National Chess Championship.
Chief Guest, Principal Mody School, Ms Nishi Ranahighlighted the significance of team spirit and pointed out that games can teach valuable lessons of discipline, self-confidence, healthy competition and unity. The tournament was a true testament to the perseverence and verve, exquisitely exhibited by all the participants.
Mr. Shailendra Kulshreshtha, Chess Tournament Co-ordinator, who was at the forefront of the organising team, reflected upon the importance of Chess in shaping one’s intellect. Drawing the analogy between life and chess, he said that we need to take calculative steps, never miss a move and be ready to move both backwards and forward.
‘Truly a commendable performance by our students, who have been bringing laurels to the school at both national as well as international levels’, said Ms. Anita Kaushik, HOD, Sports Department, Mody School.
Anchored by Miss Khushi Binwal, the tournament concluded with a cultural program and felicitation of participants with certificates while winners were awarded with certificates, memento and medals.
In the Under 14 category, Mody School secured the first position, beating DPS, Mathura road, New Delhi. Miss Ritvika KulshreshthaMiss Nitasha, Bhavya Singh, Nishita Singhania and Ruhin Tekriwal will represent at the 63rd National Chess Championship. Emerald Heights International School, Indore and DPS, Rkpuram have bagged the first prize in the Under-17 and Under-19 categories respectively.
